RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (Nov. 7, 2005) - Rochelle "Shelley"
Tyl, Ph.D., research director of Life Sciences and Toxicology and
senior program director of Reproductive and Developmental Toxicology
at RTI International, was named an RTI Senior Fellow.
Tyl has been at RTI for 16 years and has more than 35 years of experience
in reproductive and developmental biology and toxicology. She has
been study director for more than 30 multi-generation studies, more
than 20 specialized reproductive and endocrine toxicity studies
and more than 150 developmental toxicity studies.
"I am very excited about Shelley's appointment as Senior Fellow,"
said Satinder Sethi, executive vice president of the Science and
Engineering Group at RTI. "Her scientific stature is a source
of pride for RTI, and she has a very tangible positive impact on
our business. As a Fellow, she will be able to expand her scientific
influence, and equally importantly, continue to be a mentor to future
scientific leaders at RTI."
Tyl has been a speaker for symposiums at universities and national
and international organizations. She also has participated in workgroups
for American Chemistry Council, the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences
(NIEHS) and the Food and
Drug Administration.
She is author or co-author of more than 70 peer-reviewed articles,
12 book chapters, more than 70 abstracts and more than 35 government
reports. She reviews manuscripts for a number of journals and teaches
local, national and international university courses.
She was the president of the Teratology Society in 2003-2004, and
is currently the vice president for the Reproductive and Developmental
Toxicology specialty section of the Society of Toxicology. Since
1983, she has been a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology.
Tyl received both a bachelor's degree in biological sciences and
a doctorate degree in developmental genetics from the University
of Connecticut.
